Brag in Thai

“Brag” in Thai is โม้móo; you'll also hear อวดùat (show off).

โม้ móo

to brag, to talk big verb

  • móo high
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.

อวด ùat

to show off verb

  • ùat low
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.

How to use it

โม้móo is talking big, often with a wink: the friend whose fish gets bigger every time he tells the story. อวดùat is showing off something you have: a new phone, a new partner, your Thai. Modesty is valued in Thailand, so laughing at yourself goes down better than boasting.
