Learn Thai For Free ("we", "the app") is a free Thai learning website and app at learnthaiforfree.com. This policy explains what we store, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and plain on purpose. Questions: hello@learnthaiforfree.com.
What we store
- Account details: when you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. With email and password we store your email and a salted, hashed password (never the password itself).
- Learning progress: your answers, lessons, review schedule, XP, streaks, saved words, chosen songs and settings, so your progress is kept and synced across devices. If you learn without signing in, the same progress is stored under an anonymous guest account linked to a cookie in your browser.
- Voice recordings (only when you use the speech trainer): your recording is sent for automatic pronunciation feedback. We keep your first and your latest recording of each phrase so you can hear your progress, together with the feedback scores.
- AI conversations (only when you use them): the messages you type or speak and the replies, so you can review them.
- Technical data: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, and standard server logs (such as IP address and browser) kept briefly for security and to fix errors. Notification subscriptions if you turn on daily reminders.
We don't sell your data, don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and don't build marketing profiles.
Why we use it
To provide the app (saving and syncing your progress, scheduling reviews, giving speaking feedback, running conversations), to keep it secure and working, and to improve the course (for example, finding exercises many learners get wrong). The legal basis is providing the service you ask for, and our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and improving it.
Services that process data for us
- Cloudflare hosts the app, the database and file storage.
- Google handles "Sign in with Google", and its Gemini API generates speech and analyses recordings for pronunciation feedback.
- OpenAI transcribes recordings and powers the AI conversation partner.
- YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode) plays embedded song videos; YouTube's own privacy policy applies to the video player.
These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the features above and, under their API terms, don't use it to train their models.
How long we keep it
Account data and progress are kept while your account exists. Anonymous guest progress is deleted after 90 days without activity. Daily backups are kept for up to 60 days. Server logs are kept for a short time only.
Your choices and rights
- Export: download all your data from Settings → Download my data.
- Delete: delete your account and all data from Settings → Delete my account. Recordings and conversations are deleted with it; backups age out within 60 days.
- You can also email us to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to any processing.
Children
The app is meant for learners aged 13 and older. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and say so in the app.
