to celebrate verb
- chà low
- lǎwng rising
- Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
- Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
How to use it
ฉลองchà-lǎwng is for a birthday, a new job, a win: dinner, drinks, a cake. Who pays varies, but in Thailand the person celebrating is often the one who treats, เลี้ยงlíang, so on your birthday you may be the one paying. A party is งานngaan, as in งานวันเกิดngaan wan-gòet, a birthday party.
