Grass in Thai

“Grass” in Thai is หญ้าyâa.

หญ้า yâa

grass noun

  • yâa falling
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”

How to use it

หญ้าyâa has a falling tone; the หhǎw at the start is silent and only sets the tone. It sounds exactly like ย่าyâa, your father's mother, while flat ยาyaa is medicine. Parks put up signs saying ห้ามเหยียบหญ้าhâam yìap yâa, keep off the grass.

Don't mix it up

  • ยาyaa

    medicine, drug

Mid tone instead of falling: medicine.
