A haircut is ตัดผมdtàt pǒm, "cut hair": ผมpǒm is hair, the same word men use for "I". Women's salons, which also do nails and make-up, are ร้านเสริมสวยráan-sǒem-sǔay, "beauty-boosting shops".
Many barbers close on Wednesdays because of an old belief that a Wednesday haircut brings bad luck; our page on Thai superstitions explains it.
