Too sleepy to open your eyes is ลืมตาไม่ขึ้นluuem-dtaa mâi kûen, "can't get the eyes open", which also describes someone crushed by debt or bad luck. The opposite idiom, ลืมตาอ้าปากluuem-dtaa âa-bpàak, "open the eyes and the mouth", is finally getting back on your feet after hard times.
