Quite in Thai

“Quite” in Thai is ค่อนข้างkâwn-kâang.

ค่อนข้าง kâwn-kâang

quite, rather, fairly adverb

  • kâwn falling
  • kâang falling
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”

How to use it

ค่อนข้างkâwn-kâang goes before the adjective, like "quite" in English: ค่อนข้างไกลkâwn-kâang glai, quite far. It's a gentle way to be honest without being blunt, so ค่อนข้างเผ็ดkâwn-kâang pèt from a Thai friend may well mean "too spicy for you". "Not very" is ไม่ค่อยmâi kâwy.
