หายาก hǎa-yâak
rare, hard to find adjective
- hǎa rising
- yâak falling
- Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
Parts: หาhǎa to look for ยากyâak difficult
How to use it
หายากhǎa-yâak is "hard to find": a rare animal is a สัตว์หายากsàt hǎa-yâak, and something easy to find is หาง่ายhǎa ngâai. For something that rarely happens, Thais say นานๆทีnaan-naan tii, once in a long while. A rare steak is ordered with the English word, rare, in steakhouses.
