ทรายsaai is spelled with th-r at the start, but Thai reads that pair as s, so it's simply saai, flat and mid. A white-sand beach is หาดทรายขาวhàat saai kǎao, also the name of the main beach on Koh Chang, and a desert is ทะเลทรายtá-lee-saai, "a sea of sand". ทรายsaai is also a girl's nickname.
