still, motionless; silent adjective
- nîng falling
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
How to use it
นิ่งnîng is not moving: still water, a person who keeps still or goes quiet. อยู่นิ่งๆyùu nîng-nîng is "keep still!", for a child at the barber's or a dog at the vet. When someone goes นิ่งnîng in a conversation, they stop talking, which can mean they're upset. The proverb น้ำนิ่งไหลลึกnáam nîng lǎi lúek, "still water flows deep", says the same as the English one: quiet people often have a lot going on inside.
