How to use it
Thais use the English word, often shortened to super, and more often just name the chain: Big C, Lotus's, Tops or Makro. In speech the first syllable is often short, súp, and many shop signs spell it that way too: ซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ตsúp-bpôe-maa-gêt. Supermarkets are usually on the ground floor or in the basement of a mall. For fresh food at lower prices, Thais go to the market, ตลาดdtà-làat.
