How to use it
West is where the sun sets, ตะวันตกdtà-wan-dtòk, and it's also the West: Western food is อาหารตะวันตกaa-hǎan dtà-wan-dtòk, or in everyday talk อาหารฝรั่งaa-hǎan fà-ràng. West-facing rooms take the full afternoon sun, and some Thais avoid sleeping with their head to the west, the direction in which the dead are laid out.
