Count as in Thai

“Count as” in Thai is ถือว่าtǔue wâa.

ถือว่า tǔue wâa

to count as, to be considered; I'd say verb

  • tǔue rising
  • wâa falling
  • Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”

How to use it

ถือว่าtǔue wâa, "hold that", is how Thais weigh something up: ถือว่าถูกtǔue wâa tùuk, all things considered, it's cheap; ถือว่าโอเคtǔue wâa oo-kee, I'd say it's fine. It also settles things: ถือว่าหายกันtǔue wâa hǎai gan, "let's call it even". The formal "consider", thinking something over before deciding, is พิจารณาpí-jaa-rá-naa.
