Jao choo: what it means

Jao choo, เจ้าชู้jâo-chúu, describes a flirt or a player: someone, usually a man, who has eyes for everyone.

เจ้าชู้ jâo-chúu

flirtatious; a player, a womanizer adjective

  • jâo falling
  • chúu high
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.

How to use it

เจ้าชู้jâo-chúu is teasing rather than vicious: friends call a guy who chats up every waitress เจ้าชู้jâo-chúu, and it works for women too. More serious is นอกใจnâwk-jai, "outside the heart", cheating on a partner. A secret extra partner is a กิ๊กgík in slang, and a womanizer is also called a เสือผู้หญิงsǔea pûu-yǐng, a "tiger with women".
