Feelings in Thai
Many Thai feeling words are built on ใจjai, the heart or mind: ดีใจdii-jai (glad), เสียใจsǐa-jai (sad, sorry), ตกใจdtòk-jai (startled) and เกรงใจgreeng-jai, the very Thai feeling of not wanting to impose. Others stand alone: เหนื่อยnùeay (tired), เบื่อbùea (bored) and กลัวglua (scared).
You don't need "I am": เหนื่อยnùeay on its own means "I'm tired", and เหนื่อยไหมnùeay mǎi asks "Are you tired?".
