ทำใจtam-jai, "to work on your heart", is accepting what you can't change: a breakup, a loss, a missed flight, a big bill. ทำใจไม่ได้tam-jai mâi dâi is "I can't accept it", and friends console each other with a gentle ทำใจนะtam-jai ná. It sits close to ไม่เป็นไรmâi bpen rai, never mind, and to the Buddhist idea of letting go.
