Heartbroken in Thai

“Heartbroken” in Thai is อกหักòk-hàk.

อกหัก òk-hàk

heartbroken (literally 'broken chest') adjective

  • òk low
  • hàk low
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
Parts: อกòk chest หักhàk to break, to snap

How to use it

Thai breaks the chest, not the heart: อกหักòk-hàk is being dumped or turned down, and the heartbreak that follows. It's a favourite subject of Thai songs, and friends cheer up an อกหักòk-hàk friend with food, karaoke and สู้ๆsûu-sûu, keep going. A more dramatic word is ใจสลายjai sà-lǎai, a shattered heart.
