People in Thai
Thai has everyday and polite words for people, and choosing well matters. ผู้หญิงpûu-yǐng (woman) and ผู้ชายpûu-chaai (man) work almost everywhere, and คนkon is a person (and the word for counting people).
Foreigners are ชาวต่างชาติchaao-dtàang-châat, and Westerners in particular are ฝรั่งfà-ràng, a word you'll hear every day that usually isn't meant as an insult. With strangers, Thais use family words instead of "you": พี่pîi for someone a bit older, น้องnáwng for someone younger, ป้าbpâa and ลุงlung for older women and men.
Each entry explains who says what to whom, with audio and natural examples.
