How to use it

อาสาสมัครaa-sǎa-sà-màk is a volunteer, from อาสาaa-sǎa, to offer to do something, and volunteer work is often called จิตอาสาjìt-aa-sǎa, "a volunteering mind". You'll often see volunteers of a special kind at Thai road accidents: rescue workers from charitable foundations, กู้ภัยgûu-pai, who answer emergency calls in pick-ups with flashing lights, and are often first on the scene.
