How to use it

เกย์gee is the everyday, neutral word for a gay man, and gay Thais use it about themselves. The respectful umbrella term for LGBTQ+ people is ความหลากหลายทางเพศkwaam làak-lǎai taang pêet, "diversity of gender", or simply LGBTQ+. Since January 2025, same-sex couples can marry in Thailand, the first country in Southeast Asia to allow it, and Bangkok holds a big Pride parade every June.

For trans women, see ladyboy; for women, see lesbian.
