Sports and hobbies in Thai
Many Thai sports words are English ones said the Thai way: ฟุตบอลfút-bawn (football), กอล์ฟgáwp (golf) and แบดมินตันbàet-min-dtân (badminton). The verb shows how a game is played: you เตะdtè (kick) a football or a takraw ball, ตีdtii (hit) golf balls, shuttlecocks and drums, and เล่นlên (play) games, cards and the guitar.
Thailand's own sports are มวยไทยmuay-tai and ตะกร้อdtà-grâw, kick volleyball with a woven ball. To ask about someone's free time, Thais say ชอบทำอะไรchâwp tam à-rai, what do you like doing? Every word here has audio and examples for the pitch, the court and the stage.
