How to use it
ไพ่pâi is one falling syllable, and it means both the cards and the game: เล่นไพ่lên pâi, to play cards. A bank card or a business card is บัตรbàt instead. Fortune tellers read ไพ่ยิปซีpâi yíp-sii, "gypsy cards", the tarot.
Playing for money is การพนันgaan-pá-nan, gambling, which Thai law forbids except for the state lottery and licensed horse racing.
