Lake in Thai

“Lake” in Thai is ทะเลสาบtá-lee-sàap.

ทะเลสาบ tá-lee-sàap

lake noun

  • tá high
  • lee mid
  • sàap low
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.

How to use it

A lake is ทะเลสาบtá-lee-sàap, a word borrowed from Khmer: sap means fresh, not salty, so it's a "freshwater sea", and Cambodia's great lake, the Tonlé Sap, has the same name. The largest natural lake in Thailand is Songkhla Lake in the South. A smaller lake or a big pond is บึงbueng, and a pond or pool สระsà.
