taxi meter noun
- mí high
- dtôe falling
- High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
How to use it
Bangkok's taxis have meters and drivers are supposed to use them; a driver who quotes a flat price, especially at night or near the sights, wants more than the meter would show. Say กดมิเตอร์ด้วยgòt mí-dtôe dûay, "press the meter, please", or take the next taxi. Expressway tolls aren't on the meter: the passenger pays them on top.
At home it's the meter for water and electricity, and condo rents often say ค่าไฟตามมิเตอร์kâa fai dtaam mí-dtôe, electricity by the meter.
