How to use it
The sun is พระอาทิตย์prá-aa-tít, with the respectful prá in front that the moon gets too, พระจันทร์prá-jan. Sunday is the sun's day, วันอาทิตย์wan-aa-tít, and อาทิตย์aa-tít on its own is also a week. The sun's heat and light are แดดdàet: when it's beating down, Thais say แดดร้อนdàet ráwn, "the sunshine is hot". In science lessons and the news it's ดวงอาทิตย์duang-aa-tít, and songs use the old word ตะวันdtà-wan.
