What the song is about

เพลงนับเลขpleeng náp lêek, “Numbers Song (Counting to Ten)”, is a Thai children's song by Bebefinn (2024). The Thai version of a sing-along from the makers of Baby Shark: baby Finn and his family count from one to ten, slowly and then faster. It's the easiest way to hear the ten Thai numbers sung clearly, one at a time, and its chorus teaches how Thais say something is so much fun.

Key lines, explained

Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.

  1. หนึ่ง nùengสอง sǎwngสาม sǎamสี่ sìiห้า hâaหก hòkเจ็ด jètแปด bpàetเก้า gâaoสิบ sìp

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten!

One number at a time, so you can hear each one. Learn their spoken tones, because a melody bends them: หนึ่งnùeng (1), สี่sìi (4), หกhòk (6), เจ็ดjèt (7), แปดbpàet (8) and สิบsìp (10) are low; สองsǎwng (2) and สามsǎam (3) rise; ห้าhâa (5) and เก้าgâao (9) fall. Thais type laughter as 555, because five is said ห้าhâa: ha ha ha.
  2. นับ nápเลข lêekสนุก sà-nùkจัง jangเลย loeiนะ ná

    Counting is so much fun!

นับnáp = to count and เลขlêek = a number, a figure: นับเลขnáp lêek = to count. สนุกsà-nùk = fun, a word close to the Thai heart. จังเลยjang loei after a word = so…!, really…!: อร่อยจังเลยà-ràwy jang loei = it's so delicious! นะná at the end makes it warm and friendly.

Words you'll learn

  • หนึ่ง nùeng

    one

After a counting word it's often said นึงnueng, with a mid tone: แก้วนึงgâew nueng, one glass.

  • สอง sǎwng

    two

  • สาม sǎam

    three

  • สี่ sìi

    four

Low tone. Careful: สีsǐi (colour) rises.

  • ห้า hâa

    five

555 in a Thai chat is hâa hâa hâa: ha ha ha!

  • หก hòk

    six

  • เจ็ด jèt

    seven

7-Eleven is just เซเว่นsee-wên, from English.

  • แปด bpàet

    eight

Start with a crisp bp and no puff of air, like the p in spin.

  • เก้า gâao

    nine

A lucky number: it sounds like ก้าวgâao, to step forward.

  • สิบ sìp

    ten

Short and clipped: close your lips for the final p, but don't let it pop.

  • นับ náp

    to count

  • เลข lêek

    number (a figure, digits)

  • สนุก sà-nùk

    fun

Sanuk is a Thai value: if something isn't fun, why do it?

  • จัง jang

so, really (casual, after a description)

Grammar in this song

Counting past ten. After สิบsìp (10), Thai builds every number from the ones you know. Eleven is สิบเอ็ดsìp-èt: in the last place, one becomes เอ็ดèt. Then สิบสองsìp sǎwng (12), สิบสามsìp sǎam (13) and so on. Twenty is the one surprise: ยี่สิบyîi-sìp, not two-ten. Thirty is สามสิบsǎam sìp, forty สี่สิบsìi sìp. All the numbers, with audio, are on our page about Thai numbers.

So…!: จังเลยjang loei. Put it after a word that describes something, to say how much you feel it: ร้อนจังเลยráwn jang loei = it's so hot!, น่ารักจังเลยnâa-rák jang loei = so cute! It's casual and warm, perfect with friends and children.

Let's…: มาmaa + verb + กันเถอะgan tòe. The song begins by inviting everyone to count together this way. Try it yourself: มากินข้าวกันเถอะmaa gin kâao gan tòe = let's eat.

The culture behind it

Bebefinn is a 3D-animated sing-along series from The Pinkfong Company, the Korean studio behind Baby Shark, launched on YouTube in April 2022. Baby Finn, his big sister Bora, his big brother Brody and their parents sing their way through family life, one short song an episode, and the songs are also published in other languages, Thai among them. This is the Thai version of the series' Numbers Song, uploaded in November 2024 on the official Bebefinn Thai channel.

Thai has its own digits too, and you'll see them on banknotes, temple signs and official documents, though everyday Thai mostly uses the Arabic ones. Before you count in a shop or a taxi, practise the ten numbers in the song until they come without thinking: they are the start of prices, phone numbers and times.
