Bar in Thai

“Bar” in Thai is บาร์baa; you'll also hear ผับpàp (with music).

บาร์ baa

  • baa mid

ผับ pàp

pub, nightclub (with music) noun

  • pàp low

How to use it

บาร์baa sounds like English bar without the r, with a flat mid tone. A place with a band or a DJ is a ผับpàp, from pub, but closer to a club than to a quiet English pub. In casual Thai any drinking spot is a ร้านเหล้าráan lâo, a "liquor shop".

Keep the tone level: บ้าbâa with a falling tone means crazy.

Don't mix it up

  • บ้าbâa

    crazy

    Falling tone: crazy.
