Departures in Thai

“Departures” in Thai is ขาออกkǎa-àwk.

ขาออก kǎa-àwk

departures; the outbound side noun

  • kǎa rising
  • àwk low
  • Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
Parts: ขาkǎa leg; one way of a trip ออกàwk to go out, to leave

How to use it

Airports split into ขาออกkǎa-àwk, "the going-out leg", and ขาเข้าkǎa-kâo, "the coming-in leg". The same ขาkǎa, literally "leg", makes ขาไปkǎa bpai, the way there, and ขากลับkǎa glàp, the way back. At Suvarnabhumi airport, departures are on the 4th floor and arrivals on the 2nd.
