Lease in Thai

“Lease” in Thai is สัญญาเช่าsǎn-yaa-châo.

สัญญาเช่า sǎn-yaa-châo

lease, rental contract noun

  • sǎn rising
  • yaa mid
  • châo falling
  • Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
Parts: สัญญาsǎn-yaa contract; promise เช่าchâo to rent

How to use it

สัญญาsǎn-yaa means both a promise and a contract, so a lease is a "renting contract". Condo leases usually run for six months or a year, and leaving early often means losing your deposit, มัดจำmát-jam, so read it before you sign, เซ็นsen.
