How to use it
ขาดทุนkàat-tun is "to be short of your capital": the business takes in less than it spent. Vendors use it when you haggle too far, and friends use it jokingly about a bad deal. The opposite is กำไรgam-rai, profit, and an even trade is เท่าทุนtâo tun, breaking even.
