How to use it

นิยายní-yaai is a novel or any made-up story, and a book of one is counted with เรื่องrûeang, story, or เล่มlêm, volume. The formal word is นวนิยายná-wá-ní-yaai. Online novels are hugely popular, especially นิยายวายní-yaai waai, "Y novels", the boys' love stories many Thai TV series are adapted from.
