เงินngoen is silver, the metal, and it's also the everyday word for money, much like French argent. That's why the colour keeps สีsǐi, colour, in front: a silver car is รถสีเงินrót sǐi ngoen. At a jewellery stall, ask เงินแท้ไหมngoen táe mǎi, is it real silver? In Chiang Mai, the silversmiths of Wua Lai Road work next to Wat Sri Suphan, a temple decorated in silver.
