What the song is about
รักมือสองrák muue-sǎwng, “Second-hand Love (Rak Mue Song)”, is a Thai indie song by Bedroom Audio (2018). A love song for someone a past love threw away. Bedroom Audio wrote it because a woman who has been married before is often seen as damaged goods, and they disagree: even a second-hand love deserves care, and what one person calls dirt is another person's star. Its lines teach the Thai of comfort: it's okay, don't hold on to it, in the end, don't be afraid, second-hand, to take care of, important, even if.

Grammar in this song
Words of comfort. When someone is hurting, Thai has short, gentle phrases: ไม่เป็นไรmâi bpen rai (it's okay), ไม่ต้องกลัวmâi dtâwng glua (don't be afraid), ไม่ต้องห่วงmâi dtâwng hùang (don't worry), เดี๋ยวก็ผ่านไปdǐaw gâw pàan bpai (it'll pass). Add นะná to make them warmer: ไม่เป็นไรนะmâi bpen rai ná.
Don't go and…: อย่าไปyàa bpai + verb. อย่าyàa alone is don't; with ไปbpai it becomes softer, 'don't bother': อย่าไปจำyàa bpai jam (don't hold on to it), อย่าไปสนใจyàa bpai sǒn-jai (pay no attention, never mind them).
Even if: ต่อให้dtàw-hâi. It opens a condition that won't change the result: ต่อให้เป็นเศษดวงใจdtàw-hâi bpen sèet duang-jai (even if it's the scraps of a heart), ต่อให้ไกลแค่ไหนก็จะไปdtàw-hâi glai kâe-nǎi gâw jà bpai (I'll go however far it is).
The culture behind it
Bedroom Audio began, as the name says, with songs that singer Kawin "Mann" Sirinavin made in his bedroom, and their "ไม่บอกเธอmâi bàwk toe" (2012) became a hit when the teen series Hormones used it a year later. By 2018 the four-piece, Mann (vocals), Ndol (bass), Job (guitar) and Kit (drums), had moved to Tero Music, and "รักมือสองrák muue-sǎwng", released on 18 October 2018, passed 20 million views in its first month. Mann wrote the words and the music; Job calls it rock at heart, but soft and easy to listen to.
The band explained why they wrote it: in Thailand a woman who has been married before is often treated as flawed, and they disagree. Everyone makes mistakes, and a mistake doesn't make you worthless to every heart. Mann put the idea in one sentence: you may be someone's dirt, but someone else's star. The chorus says it with a shrug, ช่างเขาchâng kǎo, never mind them: let others see her as dirt. In 2024 the video passed 300 million views.
