I did everything as well as I could
ให้hâi + adjective after a verb says how it should turn out: ทำให้ดีtam hâi dii = to do it well, and with ที่สุดtîi-sùt (the most) ทำให้ดีที่สุดtam hâi dii tîi-sùt = to do your very best: จะทำให้ดีที่สุดjà tam hâi dii tîi-sùt = I'll do my best. ทุกอย่างtúk yàang = everything. The line runs on: just to hold her back, to keep her from going.
In the end I'll probably have to stop and give up
ในที่สุดnai tîi-sùt = in the end, eventually, after everything; สุดท้ายsùt-táai says the same and is also 'last'. ก็gâw links the result to it. คงkong = probably. ต้องdtâwng = to have to. หยุดyùt = to stop. ยอมแพ้yawm-páe = to give up, to admit defeat (ยอมyawm = to give in, แพ้páe = to lose): อย่ายอมแพ้yàa yawm-páe = don't give up! และláe (and) is the written word.
I just don't know how to stop the wind from changing direction
ไม่รู้จะmâi rúu jà + verb + ยังไงyang-ngai = not to know how to…: ไม่รู้จะพูดยังไงmâi rúu jà pûut yang-ngai = I don't know how to put it. ห้ามhâam = to forbid, and here to stop, to hold back: ห้าม...ให้ไม่hâam … hâi mâi + verb = to stop (it) from… ลมlom = wind. ทิศtít = direction, a point of the compass: ทิศเหนือtít nǔea = north. ลมเปลี่ยนทิศlom bplìan tít = the wind changes direction, the title. The next line asks the same about her: how do you stop her from going?
That we've come this far is more than good enough
มาไกลmaa glai = to come a long way: เรามาไกลเท่านี้rao maa glai tâo-níi = we've come this far. เท่านี้tâo-níi = this much, this far, only this: มีเท่านี้mii tâo-níi = this is all I have. ก็ดีgâw dii = that's good (enough). เหลือเกินlǔea-goen after an adjective is an emotional 'so very' of songs and speeches; in a café you'd say ดีมากdii mâak. The chorus goes on to thank her for the time they had each other. - มัน manถึงเวลา tǔeng wee-laaยอมรับ yawm-rápความจริง kwaam-jing
It's time to accept the truth
ถึงเวลาtǔeng wee-laa = it's time (to), literally 'the time has come': ถึงเวลากินข้าวแล้วtǔeng wee-laa gin kâao láew = it's time to eat. มันman (it) only fills the beat, as in a lot of Thai rock. ยอมรับyawm-ráp = to accept, to admit (ยอมyawm = to give in, รับráp = to receive): ยอมรับว่าผิดyawm-ráp wâa pìt = to admit you're wrong. ความจริงkwaam-jing = the truth.
Nothing will ever be the same again
คงkong = probably, surely. ไม่มีอะไรmâi mii à-rai = there's nothing: อะไรà-rai (what) after a negative means anything. เหมือนเดิมmǔean-doem = the same as before. อีกต่อไปìik dtàw-bpai after a negative = (not) any more, any longer: ไม่รักอีกต่อไปmâi rák ìik dtàw-bpai = not in love any more. The verse before it: one life starting again, another left empty.

The culture behind it
BIG ASS is one of Thailand's big rock bands, on Genie Records since 2004. "ลมเปลี่ยนทิศlom bplìan tít" came out on 1 February 2013, the third single from the five-song EP Daen Neramit, the band's first record with its new singer, Jeng (Decha Konalo). Two brothers in the band wrote it: Kob (Khajondet Phromraksa), the drummer at the time, the words, and guitarist Moo (Apichat Phromraksa) the music. Sunny Suwanmethanon stars in the video. The song reached number 12 on Seed FM's Top 20 and won song of the year at the Nine Entertain Awards.
The song opens with leaves falling in the wind, a sign that everything changes: all things go round and nothing is permanent, ไม่เที่ยงmâi tîang. That is a Buddhist idea taught in Thai schools: อนิจจังà-nít-jang, impermanence, one of the three marks of existence. Thai Wikipedia sums up the song the same way: nothing is certain, every meeting ends in a parting, and when someone you love finds a better road, you accept it and let them go.
