What the song is about
ไม่ได้เลวขนาดนั้นmâi dâi lew kà-nàat nán, “Mai Dai Leo Khanat Nan (I'm Not That Bad)”, is a Thai rap song by PORZAX (2026). A hit of late 2026: two weeks after its release, it was number one on YouTube's weekly chart of top songs in Thailand. - ตอบ dtàwpได้ dâiแบบ bàepคนกันเอง kon gan-eengอ่ะ à
I can answer you the way a close friend would.
The first verse asks what you'd say if someone told you they loved you. ตอบdtàwp = to answer; verb + ได้dâi = can. แบบbàep + noun = like, the way… does: แบบคนกันเองbàep kon gan-eeng = like one of your own. คนกันเองkon gan-eeng is someone you needn't be formal with, a friend or family; เป็นคนกันเองbpen kon gan-eeng = to be one of us, among friends. อ่ะà at the end is a casual shrug of a particle, and the official subtitles leave it out. - ถึง tǔengร้าย ráaiก็ gâwรัก rákอยู่ดี yùu dii
Even if you're bad, I love you all the same.
ถึงtǔeng … ก็gâw … = even if…, (still)…: ถึงแพงก็ซื้อtǔeng paeng gâw súue = even if it's expensive, I'll buy it. Tap ถึงtǔeng and you'll see its everyday meanings, to arrive, to reach, until; at the start of a sentence it means 'even if, although', here and in the title line. ร้ายráai = wicked, bad. อยู่ดีyùu dii at the end = all the same, anyway. - ถึง tǔengฉัน chǎnไม่ใช่ mâi châiคน konดี diiแต่ dtàeไม่ mâiได้ dâiเลว lewขนาดนั้น kà-nàat nán
I may not be a good guy, but I'm not that bad.
The title line. ถึงtǔeng … แต่dtàe … = although…, but…: Thai happily keeps both words. ไม่ใช่mâi châi + noun = to not be: ไม่ใช่คนดีmâi châi kon dii = not a good person. ไม่ได้mâi dâi + a description denies what people assume: ไม่ได้เลวmâi dâi lew = I'm not (actually) bad. เลวlew = bad, rotten, said of people and what they do. ขนาดนั้นkà-nàat nán = that much, that (bad): ไม่ได้แพงขนาดนั้นmâi dâi paeng kà-nàat nán = it's not that expensive. - หาก hàakยัง yangไม่ mâiชัดเจน chát-jeenพอ pawงั้น ngánยืน yuuenรอ rawก่อน gàwnได้ dâiไหม mǎi
If it's still not clear enough, then could you wait for me a while?
หากhàak = if, a more formal ถ้าtâa. ยังไม่yang mâi = still not, not yet. ชัดเจนchát-jeen = clear; adjective + พอpaw = …enough: ชัดเจนพอchát-jeen paw = clear enough, ดีพอdii paw = good enough. งั้นngán = then, in that case (spoken). ยืนรอyuuen raw = to stand waiting. Verb + ก่อนgàwn = for now, a while: รอก่อนraw gàwn = wait a bit. ได้ไหมdâi mǎi makes it a request, and he holds ไหมmǎi for over two seconds. - ไม่ mâiเคย koeiพูด pûutว่า wâaรัก rákแต่ dtàeการกระทำ gaan-grà-tamมัน manชัดเจน chát-jeen
I never say 'I love you', but my actions make it clear.
ไม่เคยmâi koei + verb = never: ไม่เคยไปmâi koei bpai = I've never been. พูดว่ารักpûut wâa rák = to say 'I love you'. การกระทำgaan-grà-tam = actions, deeds: การgaan turns a verb into a noun, here กระทำgrà-tam, a formal 'to do'. มันman (it) points back at the subject: the actions, they're clear. The official subtitles write 'not often' (ไม่ค่อยmâi kâwy) and 'my' (ผมpǒm) in this line, but he sings ไม่เคยmâi koei, never, and the short word before ชัดเจนchát-jeen sounds like มันman. - อย่า yàaไป bpaiลับหลัง láp-lǎngมา maaต่อหน้า dtàw-nâaกัน ganดีกว่า dii gwàa
Don't go behind my back; better to come face to face.
อย่าyàa + verb = don't; อย่าไปyàa bpai + verb = don't go and… ลับหลังláp-lǎng = behind someone's back (ลับláp = hidden, หลังlǎng = back), and its opposite is ต่อหน้าdtàw-nâa, to someone's face, in front of them. มาmaa + … + กันgan = let's come and…, together. ดีกว่าdii gwàa at the end = it's better to…, let's… instead: กลับบ้านดีกว่าglàp bâan dii gwàa = I'd better go home.

Grammar in this song
ถึงtǔeng … ก็gâw / แต่dtàe … = even if…, although…: ถึงร้ายก็รักอยู่ดีtǔeng ráai gâw rák yùu dii (even if you're bad, I love you all the same), ถึงฉันไม่ใช่คนดีแต่ไม่ได้เลวtǔeng chǎn mâi châi kon dii dtàe mâi dâi lew (I may not be a good guy, but I'm not bad). Careful Thai says ถึงแม้tǔeng-máe or แม้máe.
ไม่ได้mâi dâi + adjective or verb denies what someone assumes: ไม่ได้เลวขนาดนั้นmâi dâi lew kà-nàat nán (I'm not that bad), ไม่ได้โกรธmâi dâi gròot (I'm not angry, really). ไม่เคยmâi koei + verb = never, ไม่ค่อยmâi kâwy + verb = not often: ไม่เคยพูดmâi koei pûut (never say it), ไม่ค่อยพูดmâi kâwy pûut (hardly ever say it). Adjective + พอpaw = …enough: ชัดเจนพอchát-jeen paw (clear enough).
The culture behind it
PORZAX is a Thai hip-hop artist who first went viral on TikTok with 'อุ๋งอุ๋งǔng ǔng'. He wrote "ไม่ได้เลวขนาดนั้นmâi dâi lew kà-nàat nán" and produced, mixed and mastered it himself, on a beat by galaxie, and the video's credits name the Thai band Only Monday as its inspiration. It came out on 17 September 2026; within two weeks it was number one on YouTube's weekly chart of top songs in Thailand, and in early October it reached number two on Spotify's daily chart there.
The narrator is a rough-edged guy pleading his case: he's no saint, but he never lies about love, he'll stand up for her if anyone picks on her, and he'd rather settle things face to face. The full song has strong language: ตอแหลdtaw-lǎe (a rude word for lying, two-faced) in the hook, โคตรkôot (damn, so) and กูguu (the rough 'I'), and a few mildly suggestive lines, and its video, a school love triangle, has some pushing and shoving. The key lines here are clean.
