birthday noun
- wan mid
- gòet low
- Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
How to use it
วันเกิดwan-gòet is the "day you were born". Many Thais make merit at a temple on their birthday, ทำบุญวันเกิดtam-bun wan-gòet, and the birthday person often treats their friends to dinner, เลี้ยงวันเกิดlíang wan-gòet, rather than the other way round. Thais also know the weekday they were born on, which has its own colour and Buddha image.
To wish someone a happy birthday, see Happy Birthday in Thai.
