สมอง sà-mǎwng
brain noun
- sà low
- mǎwng rising
- Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
- Rising: start low, dip, then rise to the top, like a doubtful “Really?”
How to use it
สมองsà-mǎwng is the brain: a quick, low sà and then a rising mǎwng. To call someone clever, Thais talk about the head rather than the brain: หัวดีhǔa dii, "good head", means bright. Brain drain, skilled people moving abroad, is สมองไหลsà-mǎwng-lǎi, "the brain flows away".
