Cough in Thai

“Cough” in Thai is ไอai.

ไอ ai

to cough; a cough verb

  • ai mid
  • Mid: level, in your normal speaking voice.

How to use it

ไอai is flat and mid, both to cough and a cough. A dry cough is ไอแห้งai hâeng, and phlegm is เสมหะsěem-hà, so a pharmacist will often ask มีเสมหะไหมmii sěem-hà mǎi, is there phlegm? Cough medicine is ยาแก้ไอyaa gâe ai, "medicine that fixes coughs".

If a cough lasts more than a week or two, or you have a fever with it, see a doctor.
