Even in Thai

“Even” in Thai is แม้แต่máe-dtàe.

แม้แต่ máe-dtàe

even (even kids…) adverb

  • máe high
  • dtàe low
  • High: start high and go a little higher, a bit tense; don’t let it fall.
  • Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.

How to use it

แม้แต่máe-dtàe + a noun, then ก็gâw or ยังyang before the verb, is "even …": แม้แต่คนไทยยังว่าเผ็ดmáe-dtàe kon tai yang wâa pèt, even Thais say it's spicy. In quick speech ยังyang alone often does the job, as in เด็กยังทำได้dèk yang tam dâi, even a child can do it.
