ก็ได้ (gaw dai) in Thai: what it means and how to use it

ก็ได้gâw dâi means “…is fine too”, and on its own, “okay then”.

ก็ได้ gâw dâi

…is fine too; okay then (a little reluctant) phrase

  • gâw falling
  • dâi falling
  • Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”

How to use it

ก็ได้gâw dâi, "then it's possible", after a choice means "…works too": พรุ่งนี้ก็ได้prûng-níi gâw dâi, tomorrow's fine too. After a question word it's "any … at all": อะไรก็ได้à-rai gâw dâi, anything; ที่ไหนก็ได้tîi-nǎi gâw dâi, anywhere. Said on its own, ก็ได้gâw dâi is "okay then", often with a little sigh: you agree, but it wasn't your first choice. A wholehearted yes is ได้เลยdâi loei, sure!
