section, article (of a law) noun
- mâat falling
- dtraa mid
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
How to use it
A Thai law is divided into numbered มาตราmâat-dtraa, sections, and news reports cite them by number, as in มาตราสิบmâat-dtraa sìp, section 10. The clauses of a contract or a list of rules are ข้อkâw instead: ข้อหนึ่งkâw nùeng, clause 1.
Learners of the Thai script meet the word too: the eight groups of final-consonant sounds are the มาตราตัวสะกดmâat-dtraa dtua-sà-gòt.
