Phrases to say out loud
Listen, then say each one. In the app the speech trainer scores your tones word by word.

Is it close?

ใกล้glâi falls: start high and drop. Then ไหมmǎi dips and rises. - ไกล glaiไหม mǎiครับ kráp
Is it far?
Men ไกลไหมครับ glai mǎi krápWomen ไกลไหมคะ glai mǎi ká
ไกลglai is mid and level, not falling like ใกล้glâi (near). - ไม่ mâiไกล glai
It's not far.
Falling ไม่mâi, then a flat ไกลglai: if your voice drops on the second word, you've said 'not near'. - ร้านขายยา ráan-kǎai-yaaอยู่ yùuที่ไหน tîi-nǎiครับ kráp
Where's the pharmacy?
Men ร้านขายยาอยู่ที่ไหนครับ ráan-kǎai-yaa yùu tîi-nǎi krápWomen ร้านขายยาอยู่ที่ไหนคะ ráan-kǎai-yaa yùu tîi-nǎi ká
ร้านขายยาráan-kǎai-yaa goes high, rising, mid; then อยู่yùu is low. - อยู่ yùuข้างๆ kâang-kâangเซเว่น see-wên
It's next to the 7-Eleven.
ข้างๆkâang-kâang falls twice; keep the aa long both times. - อยู่ yùuตรงข้าม dtrong-kâamธนาคาร tá-naa-kaan

ตรงข้ามdtrong-kâam starts with an unaspirated dt (no puff), then a falling ข้ามkâam with a puff on the k. - อยู่ yùuชั้น chánไหน nǎiครับ kráp

ชั้นchán is short and high; ไหนnǎi rises. - โทรศัพท์ too-rá-sàpแบตหมด bàet mòt

แบตbàet and หมดmòt both end in a t you don't release: just stop the sound. - ช่วย chûayชี้ chíiใน naiแผนที่ pǎen-tîiหน่อย nàwyครับ kráp
