Key lines, explained

Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.

  1. ก็ gâwสบายดี sà-baai diiหนิ nì

    I'm doing fine, see

The song's first words. สบายดีsà-baai dii = well, fine: the answer every learner knows to สบายดีไหมsà-baai dii mǎi, how are you? ก็gâw at the start = well, … หนิnì is how songs and text messages spell นี่nîi said quickly at the end of a sentence: 'see', pointing out the obvious. Fine, the singer says: nothing like the heartbroken people in films.
  2. ไม่ต้อง mâi dtâwngปวด bpùatหัว hǔaต้อง dtâwngคอย kawyเอาใจ ao jaiอยู่ yùuเรื่อยไป rûeay bpai

No headaches, no always having to keep you happy

ไม่ต้องmâi dtâwng = no need to, don't have to; it covers both halves of the line. ปวดหัวbpùat hǔa = to have a headache (ปวดbpùat = to ache, หัวhǔa = head), and just as often 'what a pain': ปวดหัวกับงานbpùat hǔa gàp ngaan = fed up with work. เอาใจao jai = to keep someone happy, to pamper them, to give in to their moods. คอยkawy + verb = to always be there to… อยู่เรื่อยไปyùu rûeay bpai = all the time, on and on.
  3. บอก bàwkตัวเอง dtua-eengไปวันๆ bpai wan-wanว่า wâaแค่ kâeนี้ níiสบาย sà-baai

I tell myself day after day that life like this is easy

บอกตัวเองbàwk dtua-eeng = to tell yourself. ไปวันๆbpai wan-wan = day after day, just getting through the days. The line before it starts the same way with หลอกlàwk, to fool: หลอกตัวเองlàwk dtua-eeng = to fool yourself. แค่นี้kâe níi = just this; แค่นี้สบายkâe níi sà-baai = life like this is easy (สบายsà-baai = comfortable, at ease).
  4. และ láeใจ jaiก็ gâwยังคง yang-kongแอบ àepหวัง wǎng

And my heart still secretly hopes

The title line. Just before it, the chorus says the heart inside still misses them. แอบàep + verb = to do secretly: แอบหวังàep wǎng = to secretly hope, แอบรักàep rák = to love someone in secret. หวังwǎng = to hope, and หวังว่าwǎng wâa = to hope that. The line goes on with what the heart hopes: that one day, สักวันsàk wan, they'll come back. ยังคงyang-kong = still (in songs). It's his heart, ใจjai, that hopes, while he keeps telling everyone he's fine.
  5. ต่อหน้า dtàw-nâaใครๆ krai-kraiฉัน chǎnต้อง dtâwngมีความสุข mii kwaam-sùk

In front of everyone, I have to be happy

Before it: having to play a part, like someone always in a good mood. ต่อหน้าdtàw-nâa = in front of, in someone's presence: ต่อหน้าคนอื่นdtàw-nâa kon ùuen = in front of other people, and ลับหลังláp-lǎng = behind someone's back. ใครๆkrai-krai = everybody, anyone at all: ใครkrai (who) said twice, as the band's lyric sheet writes it, ใครใครkrai krai. มีความสุขmii kwaam-sùk = to be happy.

The culture behind it

Anatomy Rabbit is an indie duo from Udon Thani, in Isan: singer and guitarist Oak, who wrote "แอบหวังàep wǎng", and drummer Tuch. Each played in another band at the same bar; in 2018 they started this one as a side project and named it for Oak's love of rabbits, and their first album, Holland Lop, is named after a small lop-eared rabbit breed. They released their early music themselves, from Udon Thani, without a label. "แอบหวังàep wǎng", their dreamy-pop single with the English title Daydreamer, came out with this video in January 2021; in October 2026 it had spent 241 weeks on Spotify's weekly chart for Thailand (kworb).

The song is a picture of something very Thai: keeping a calm, cheerful face in front of others, ต่อหน้าคนอื่นdtàw-nâa kon ùuen, whatever you feel inside. Thais say someone who looks fine but hurts inside is ยิ้มทั้งน้ำตาyím táng nám-dtaa, smiling through tears.
