What the song is about

ผู้บ่าวเสื้อปุ๋ยpûu-bàao sûea-bpǔi, “Phu Bao Suea Pui (The Guy in the Fertilizer T-Shirt)”, is a luk thung song by Did Kitty (2025). YouTube Thailand's fourth most-watched music video of 2025, and one reason the free T-shirts that farmers get with their fertilizer became a nationwide meme: a village boy tells the girl he likes that he can't afford cafés or the mall, the fanciest he can do is basil rice from a roadside stall, and all he really has is his heart. Funny and sweet, it teaches Isan words for guys and girls, 'can't afford to', 'just like' and 'plain', and a slice of village life.

Key lines, explained

Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.

  1. คง kongบ่มีปัญญา bàw mii bpan-yaaสิ sìพา paaเจ้า jâoไป bpaiคาเฟ่ kaa-fêe

I probably can't afford to take you to a café…

ปัญญาbpan-yaa is wisdom, but ไม่มีปัญญาmâi mii bpan-yaa + verb is casual Thai for 'can't afford to', 'have no means to'; Isan says บ่bàw for ไม่mâi: บ่มีปัญญาbàw mii bpan-yaa. คงkong = probably; Isan สิsì = จะjà, will. พาpaa someone ไปbpai = to take them somewhere. A คาเฟ่kaa-fêe is a stylish café, the kind people visit for photos: the next line is about posting pretty pictures on Facebook.
  2. อ้าย âaiมัน manบ่ bàwเท่ห์ têeคือจั่ง kuue-jàngผู้บ่าว pûu-bàaoใน naiเมือง mueang

I'm not cool like the guys in the city.

He calls himself อ้ายâai, 'older brother', the way an Isan man talks to a girl he likes, and มันman just points back at him: อ้ายมันâai man = me, I'm the one who. เท่ห์têe (the dictionary spelling is เท่têe) = cool, stylish. Isan คือจั่งkuue-jàng = เหมือนmǔean, just like. Isan ผู้บ่าวpûu-bàao = a young man, a guy (and ผู้สาวpûu-sǎao a young woman); ในเมืองnai mueang = in town, in the city.
  3. อ้าย âaiใส่ sàiเสื้อปุ๋ย sûea-bpǔiแถม tǎemมา maaน้อง náwngหล่า làa

I wear a fertilizer T-shirt that came free, darling.

The hook. ใส่sài = to wear. ปุ๋ยbpǔi = fertilizer, and เสื้อปุ๋ยsûea-bpǔi is the free T-shirt, printed with the brand, that farmers get with their sacks. แถมtǎem = to throw in for free: แถมมาtǎem maa = it came free. น้องnáwng = you, to a younger woman, and Isan หล่าlàa = darling: น้องหล่าnáwng làa = my darling.
  4. หรู rǔuสุด sùtแค่ kâeข้าวกระเพรา kâao gà-praoข้าง kâangทาง taang

The fanciest it gets is basil stir-fry on rice from a roadside stall.

หรูrǔu = fancy, posh; สุดsùt after it = the most: หรูสุดrǔu sùt = the fanciest. แค่kâe = only, just. ข้าวกะเพราkâao gà-prao = rice topped with meat stir-fried with holy basil, the cheap dish every Thai orders when nothing else comes to mind. The dictionary spells the herb กะเพราgà-prao; the lyric sheet's กระเพราgrà-prao, with an r that nobody says (the singer doesn't either), is a common misspelling you will see on menus too. ข้างทางkâang taang = by the roadside.
  5. อ้าย âaiย่านแต่ yâan dtàeเจ้า jâoสิ sìบ่ bàwฮัก hákบัก bàkผู้ชาย pûu-chaaiบ้านๆ bâan-bâan

I'm just afraid you won't love a plain country guy.

The last line of the chorus. Isan ย่านyâan = กลัวglua, to be afraid, and ย่านแต่yâan dtàe = I'm only afraid that. Isan สิบ่ฮักsì bàw hák = จะไม่รักjà mâi rák, won't love. บักbàk goes before a man's or a boy's name or word in Isan, casually: บักผู้ชายbàk pûu-chaai = some guy. บ้านๆbâan-bâan, from บ้านbâan, home, village, = plain, simple, nothing fancy: อาหารบ้านๆaa-hǎan bâan-bâan = simple home cooking.

  • บัก bàk

(Isan) word before a man's or boy's name

For a man or boy your own age or younger: everyday Isan, not rude (Central ไอ้âi is much ruder): บักจ่อยbàk jàwy, 'the skinny guy'. In fruit names บักbàk is something else, Central หมากmàak: บักหุ่งbàk-hùng = papaya.

Grammar in this song

Can't afford to. ไม่มีปัญญาmâi mii bpan-yaa + verb, literally 'have no wisdom to', is casual Thai for 'can't afford to': ไม่มีปัญญาซื้อmâi mii bpan-yaa súue = I can't afford to buy it. The song says it twice, Isan style: บ่มีปัญญาbàw mii bpan-yaa, and the second time it is the mall, ห้างhâang.

The most. Adjective + สุดsùt = the most, in casual speech: หรูสุดrǔu sùt (the fanciest), ถูกสุดtùuk sùt (the cheapest), ดีสุดdii sùt (the best). Formal Thai adds ที่สุดtîi sùt: ดีที่สุดdii tîi sùt.

Isan words for people. ผู้บ่าวpûu-bàao = a young man, ผู้สาวpûu-sǎao = a young woman, อ้ายâai = older brother, the man, น้องnáwng or หล่าlàa = the younger one, darling. บักbàk goes casually before a man's or boy's name. The romanization reads these words as their spelling would sound in Central Thai; real Isan tones differ, so copy the singer.

The culture behind it

The joke. Fertilizer companies give farmers T-shirts printed with their brand, and across rural Thailand those เสื้อปุ๋ยsûea-bpǔi are the shirts you work the fields in: a giveaway, not fashion. The singer plays a village boy who compares himself with the city guys: he can't take her to a café for Facebook photos or shop at the mall; the fanciest meal he can offer is basil rice from a roadside stall, a date is a stroll round the Saturday market, and his motorbike is an old one his parents handed down to him. All he has is a heart ready for her, and he's afraid that isn't enough.

In 2025 the fertilizer shirt became a pop-culture symbol. BrandThink traces it to a viral clip of the actor Mario Maurer catching fish in the mud in one, on Sian Rang's online show, which gave Thai the phrase หล่อทะลุเสื้อปุ๋ยlàw tá-lú sûea-bpǔi, 'handsome right through a fertilizer shirt', and to this song's hook, which became a meme. In March 2026 the rapper F.HERO released a song with Did Kitty, and both appeared in fertilizer shirts to launch it (Khaosod).

Did Kitty (ดิดคิตตี้dìt kít-dtîi) is a young Isan indie singer; his earlier song 'Yu Phu Diao Hai Chin' had passed 80 million views by 2022 (Sanook). He released this one, written by Kee Phongsak, on his own channel on 20 May 2025, and Google named it YouTube Thailand's fourth most-watched music video of the year. The video was shot at a school in Roi Et.
