- อยาก yàakจะ jàรู้ rúuวิธี wí-tiiลืม luuemใครสักคน krai sàk konต้อง dtâwngทำ tamอย่างไร yàang-rai
I want to know how to forget someone. What do I have to do?
วิธีwí-tii + verb = how to, the way to: วิธีลืมwí-tii luuem = how to forget, วิธีทำwí-tii tam = how to make it (recipes start like this). ใครสักคนkrai sàk kon = someone, somebody. ต้องทำอย่างไรdtâwng tam yàang-rai = what do I have to do? อย่างไรyàang-rai is the written form of the everyday ยังไงyang-ngai, and singers often prefer it. - และ láeลบ lópทุก túkรูป rûupที่ tîiมี miiเธอ toe
And delete every photo with you in it.
ลบlóp = to delete, to erase (and 'minus' in maths). ทุกtúk + noun = every: ทุกรูปtúk rûup = every photo, ทุกวันtúk wan = every day. รูปrûup = photo, picture. Next she deletes every message, ข้อความkâw-kwaam, too: the breakup ritual of the smartphone age. - มัน manไม่มีทาง mâi mii taangลืม luuemใครสักคน krai sàk konถ้าหากว่า tâa hàak wâaเรา raoนั้น nánยัง yangรัก rák
There's no way to forget someone if you still love them.
ไม่มีทางmâi mii taang = there's no way (literally 'there is no road'); said on its own, it means 'no way!'. ถ้าหากว่าtâa hàak wâa = if, a longer and more emphatic ถ้าtâa. ยังyang + verb = still: ยังรักyang rák = still love. เราrao here means 'you, anyone', and นั้นnán after it just adds weight. - ลบ lópอะไรก็ตาม à-rai gâw dtaamแต่ dtàeถ้า tâaสุดท้าย sùt-táaiยัง yangรัก rákอยู่ yùu
Delete whatever you like, but if in the end you still love them,
อะไรก็ตามà-rai gâw dtaam = whatever, anything at all. The same pattern works with other question words: ใครก็ตามkrai gâw dtaam = whoever, ที่ไหนก็ตามtîi-nǎi gâw dtaam = wherever. สุดท้ายsùt-táai = in the end, finally. ยังyang + verb + อยู่yùu = still (doing): ยังรักอยู่yang rák yùu = still in love. - การ gaanลบ lópไม่ mâiได้ dâiช่วย chûayให้ hâiลืม luuem
deleting doesn't help you forget.
The title line. การgaan + verb makes an activity noun, like English '-ing': ลบlóp (delete) → การลบgaan lóp (deleting), เรียนrian (study) → การเรียนgaan rian (studying). ไม่ได้mâi dâi + verb says something isn't actually so: ไม่ได้ช่วยmâi dâi chûay = doesn't help. ช่วยให้chûay hâi + verb = to help (someone) to… - หรือ rǔueเป็น bpenเพราะ práwฉัน chǎnเอง eengที่ tîiยัง yangไม่ mâiอยาก yàakลืม luuem
Or is it because I'm the one who doesn't want to forget yet?
หรือrǔue at the start of a sentence = or is it that… เป็นเพราะbpen práw = it's because. ฉันเองchǎn eeng = I myself, me of all people (เองeeng = -self). ที่tîi here means 'the one who': ฉันเองที่ยังไม่อยากลืมchǎn eeng tîi yang mâi yàak luuem = it's me who doesn't want to forget yet. ยังไม่yang mâi + verb = not yet: ยังไม่กินyang mâi gin = I haven't eaten yet.

Slang and casual Thai
- เค้า káo

In the bridge Ink sings เค้าkáo, not เขาkǎo, for 'him'. It's the spoken spelling of เขาkǎo, with a high tone, used in chats and lyrics; formal writing always has เขาkǎo. Between couples เค้าkáo can also mean 'I', a cute, babyish usage.
Grammar in this song
การgaan + verb turns an action into a noun, like English '-ing': การลบgaan lóp (deleting), การลืมgaan luuem (forgetting), การเดินทางgaan doen-taang (travelling). For feelings and qualities Thai uses ความkwaam instead: ความรักkwaam rák (love), ความสุขkwaam sùk (happiness).
ไม่ได้mâi dâi + verb says that something is not actually the case: การลบไม่ได้ช่วยให้ลืมgaan lóp mâi dâi chûay hâi luuem (deleting doesn't help you forget), ผมไม่ได้โกรธpǒm mâi dâi gròot (I'm not angry, really). Don't confuse it with verb + ไม่ได้mâi dâi, which means 'can't': ลืมไม่ได้luuem mâi dâi = I can't forget.
Question word + ก็ตามgâw dtaam = …ever: อะไรก็ตามà-rai gâw dtaam (whatever), ใครก็ตามkrai gâw dtaam (whoever). ยังyang + verb + อยู่yùu = still doing: ยังรักอยู่yang rák yùu (still in love); ยังไม่yang mâi + verb = not yet: ยังไม่อยากลืมyang mâi yàak luuem (don't want to forget yet).
The culture behind it
Ink Waruntorn (Waruntorn Paonil, born in 1994) started young: at 13 she was a member of the girl group Chilli White Choc. She then studied classical singing at Chulalongkorn University before going solo with Boxx Music in 2015, and her first solo single, "เหงาเหงาngǎo ngǎo" (Insomnia), topped the Cat Radio chart. "ลบไม่ได้ช่วยให้ลืมlóp mâi dâi chûay hâi luuem" came out in July 2020, written by her producer Tan Liptapallop with Panithi Lertudomthana, and that year she won Best Asian Artist for Thailand at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. On Valentine's Day 2021 she released a live duet of the song with Billkin, which has about 56 million views of its own.
The song describes the breakup ritual of the smartphone age: deleting the photos, every message (in Thailand, usually a LINE chat) and everything else that reminds you. Then the bridge admits the real problem: maybe she doesn't want to forget yet. Honest, self-aware heartbreak songs like this are the backbone of Thai pop, and karaoke rooms are where Thais sing them at full volume.
