Key lines, explained

Tap a line to hear it. Once the video is playing, lines jump to their moment in the song.

  1. รู้ rúuฉัน chǎnรู้ rúuยังไง yang-ngaiเธอ toeก็ gâwเลือก lûeakเขา kǎo

I know, I know: whatever happens, you'll choose him.

The song keeps coming back to รู้rúu, 'I know', the way people say it when it hurts; Thai can leave out the 'I', so รู้ฉันรู้rúu chǎn rúu is 'I know, I know'. Men sing ฉันchǎn (I) too: in songs it is everyone's 'I', though a man says ผมpǒm when he talks. ยังไงyang-ngai means how, but ยังไงก็yang-ngai gâw + verb = whatever happens, anyway: ยังไงก็ต้องไปyang-ngai gâw dtâwng bpai = I have to go anyway. เลือกlûeak = to choose.
  2. อาจ àatเป็น bpenเพราะ práwเธอ toeแค่ kâeเหงา ngǎoใจ jai

Maybe it's because you were just lonely.

He wonders why she was with him at all. อาจเป็นเพราะàat bpen práw… = maybe it's because…: อาจàat = might, maybe (in speech often อาจจะàat-jà) and เป็นเพราะbpen práw = it's because. แค่kâe = just, only. เหงาngǎo = lonely, and เหงาใจngǎo jai, 'lonely at heart', is the song form; in speech it's just เหงาngǎo: เหงาจังngǎo jang = I'm so lonely.
  3. แต่ dtàeอยาก yàakจะ jàขอร้อง kǎw-ráwngเธอ toeอีก ìikครั้ง kráng

but I want to beg you one more time.

อยากจะyàak jà + verb = to want to, a little softer than อยากyàak alone. ขอร้องkǎw-ráwng = to beg, to plead (ขอkǎw = to ask for, ร้องráwng = to cry out): it's a stronger, more desperate ask than ขอkǎw. อีกครั้งìik kráng = once more, again; ครั้งkráng = time, occasion: ครั้งแรกkráng râek = the first time.
  4. โปรด bpròotรัก rákฉัน chǎnรัก rákฉัน chǎnเถอะ tòeนะ ná

Please, love me, just love me.

The title line, opened by a soft, almost breathed โปรดbpròot: the formal 'please' of signs and announcements (โปรดถอดรองเท้าbpròot tàwt rawng-táao = please take off your shoes), so in a song it sounds like a solemn plea. เถอะtòe after a verb urges gently, 'go on, just…', and เถอะนะtòe ná softens it further: กินเถอะนะgin tòe ná = go on, eat.
  5. รู้ rúuฉัน chǎnสู้ sûuเขา kǎoไม่ mâiไหว wǎi

    I know I can't compete with him.

สู้sûu = to fight, to stand up to, to compete with. Verb + ไม่ไหวmâi wǎi = can't manage it, haven't got the strength: สู้เขาไม่ไหวsûu kǎo mâi wǎi = I'm no match for him; เดินไม่ไหวแล้วdoen mâi wǎi láew = I can't walk any more. Thais also cheer each other on with สู้สู้sûu sûu: keep going, you can do it!
  6. ฉัน chǎnจะ jàดูแล duu-laeเธอ toeให้ hâiดี dii

I'll take good care of you.

ดูแลduu-lae = to take care of, to look after (ดูduu = to look, แลlae = an old word for to look). Verb + ให้ดีhâi dii = (to do it) well, properly: ดูแลตัวเองให้ดีนะduu-lae dtua-eeng hâi dii ná = take good care of yourself, a warm Thai goodbye.
  7. รู้ rúuว่า wâaระหว่าง rá-wàangเรา raoนั้น nánมี miiบางอย่าง baang yàang

I know there's something between us.

The last verse turns hopeful. รู้ว่าrúu wâa = to know that. ระหว่างrá-wàang = between: ระหว่างเราrá-wàang rao = between us. นั้นnán (that) after it marks 'between us' as the topic, a habit of written and sung Thai. บางอย่างbaang yàang = something, some things (บางbaang = some): มีบางอย่างอยากบอกmii baang yàang yàak bàwk = there's something I want to tell you.

Grammar in this song

Whatever happens: ยังไงก็yang-ngai gâw + verb. ยังไงyang-ngai (how) with ก็gâw after it means however it goes, the result stays: ยังไงเธอก็เลือกเขาyang-ngai toe gâw lûeak kǎo (you'll choose him whatever happens), ยังไงก็ต้องไปyang-ngai gâw dtâwng bpai (I have to go anyway).

Can't manage it: verb + ไม่ไหวmâi wǎi. It's about strength and endurance, where ไม่ได้mâi dâi is about ability or permission: กินไม่ไหวแล้วgin mâi wǎi láew (I can't eat another bite), สู้เขาไม่ไหวsûu kǎo mâi wǎi (I'm no match for him). Ask ไหวไหมwǎi mǎi (can you manage?) when someone looks tired.

Three ways to say please. Everyday Thai asks with ช่วยchûay before the verb or หน่อยnàwy after it: ช่วยปิดประตูหน่อยchûay bpìt bprà-dtuu nàwy (could you close the door?). กรุณาgà-rú-naa is polite and written; โปรดbpròot is the most formal, for signs, announcements and songs that beg.

The culture behind it

Atom (ชนกันต์ รัตนอุดมchá-ná-gan rát-dtà-ná-ù-dom, born in 1991) comes from a family of lawyers: his parents and his sister studied law, and so did he, at Thammasat University. But he had been writing songs since primary school, and before he sang his own he wrote for others, among them Pop Pongkool's ปล่อยbplàwy ('Let Go'), words and music. "Please", which he wrote from his own experience, came out in early 2015 as his first single on White Music, a label of GMM Grammy, with Ball of the band Apartment Khunpa as producer. It went to number one on some Thai radio charts, EFM 94's airplay chart among them, and its video, with about 360 million views, is among the 30 most-watched music videos by Thai artists on YouTube (kworb, October 2026).

The video's description calls the song a plea for love, and a pitiful one, because the answer may well end in sadness. That is why it begs with ขอร้องkǎw-ráwng, a much heavier word than the everyday ขอkǎw, and with โปรดbpròot, the 'please' of signs, which turns a love song into something close to a prayer.
