Jai Pang (ใจพัง): meaning and key lines
SARAN feat. GTK
What the song is about
ใจพังjai pang, “Jai Pang (Broken Heart)”, is a Thai rap song by SARAN feat. GTK (2023). SARAN's sad-boy hit about being left alone in the cool season, playing the same song a thousand times. His plain, diary-like rap shows how to talk about feelings: I've lost my confidence, my heart is as hard as stone, thank you, me, for still being here. It also teaches November and December, and a polite way to ask a favour. In 2023, the year it came out, SARAN was Spotify's most-streamed male artist in Thailand.

spending the cool season all on my own,
The sung hook opens the song: I'm still in an empty world… หน้าหนาวnâa-nǎao = the cool season, roughly November to February; หน้าnâa here means season, as in หน้าร้อนnâa-ráwn (the hot season) and หน้าฝนnâa-fǒn (the rainy season). แค่kâe and เพียงpiang both mean only, and songs like to pair them. ลำพังlam-pang = alone, by yourself: อยู่ลำพังyùu lam-pang = to be (all) alone; everyday Thai says อยู่คนเดียวyùu kon-diaw.
the same guy whose heart is still broken.
The title line, from the hook: no one has come to fill the gap yet, and I'm still the same guy, heart still broken. The clip starts at เป็นbpen: the ยังyang (still) before it is sung in one breath with the line before. คนเดิมkon doem = the same person (เดิมdoem = as before: ที่เดิมtîi doem = the same place). ใจพังjai pang = a broken heart: พังpang = broken, wrecked, as a car or a phone can be; อกหักòk-hàk, 'broken chest', is the everyday word for heartbroken.
I've become someone with no confidence in himself.
SARAN's rap starts. กลายเป็นglaai-bpen = to become, to turn into. คนที่kon tîi + description = someone who…: คนที่ไม่มั่นใจkon tîi mâi mân-jai = someone who isn't confident. มั่นใจmân-jai = confident, sure: มั่นใจในตัวเองmân-jai nai dtua-eeng = confident in yourself, มั่นใจไหมmân-jai mǎi = are you sure?
Now my heart is as hard as a bag of stones.
แข็งkǎeng = hard, stiff; ใจแข็งjai kǎeng = hard-hearted, and also tough, not giving in. Adjective + เหมือนmǔean + thing = as … as…: เย็นเหมือนน้ำแข็งyen mǔean náam-kǎeng = as cold as ice. ถุงtǔng = bag, หินhǐn = stone, rock. He goes on: is this what a man's heart is like?
Thank you, me, for still being here.
ขอบคุณkàwp-kun + person + ที่tîi + what they did = to thank someone for…: ขอบคุณที่มาkàwp-kun tîi maa = thanks for coming. ตัวเองdtua-eeng = yourself, oneself. ยังอยู่yang yùu = to still be here, still around. Before it: from now on I won't carry anyone's pain; after it: whatever trouble comes, I get back up fast.
You left me one November and drove me out of my mind in December.
เคยkoei + verb = did once, used to: it happened back then. ทิ้งtíng = to throw away, to leave someone. The months: พฤศจิกายนprúet-sà-jì-gaa-yon (November) and ธันวาคมtan-waa-kom (December); months of 30 days end in -yon, months of 31 in -kom. In full you'd say ในเดือนnai duean (in the month of) + month, as he does for December; before November he drops it, as quick speech can (the lyric sheet writes เดือนduean there). ทำtam + person + feeling = to make someone…: ทำฉันบ้าตายtam chǎn bâa dtaai = drove me crazy: บ้าbâa = crazy, and ตายdtaai (to die) after a feeling = to death, terribly. - มี miiเพียง piangอย่างเดียว yàang-diawที่ tîiทำให้ tam-hâiฉัน chǎnอารมณ์ดี aa-rom-diiบางที baang-tiiมัน manอาจ àatไม่ใช่ mâi châiความรัก kwaam-rákแต่ dtàeคง kongเป็น bpenเสียง sǐangดนตรี don-dtrii
Only one thing puts me in a good mood: maybe it isn't love, but the sound of music.
The words the video's description quotes. = there's only one thing that…: อย่างเดียวyàang-diaw = only, the one thing. ทำให้tam-hâi + person + feeling = to make someone feel…; อารมณ์ดีaa-rom-dii = in a good mood, and its opposite is อารมณ์เสียaa-rom sǐa, in a bad mood. บางทีbaang-tii = maybe (and sometimes), อาจàat = might, คงkong = probably: ไม่ใช่…แต่คงเป็นmâi châi … dtàe kong bpen = not…, but probably… เสียงดนตรีsǐang don-dtrii = the sound of music.
Please do think of me a little, will you?
From the last verse, where he even says his own name. รบกวนróp-guan = to bother, and a polite way to ask a favour: รบกวนช่วยปิดประตูหน่อยróp-guan chûay bpìt bprà-dtuu nàwy = could you close the door, please? คิดถึงkít-tǔeng = to miss, to think of. บ้างbâang = some, now and then. ละกันlá-gan (short for แล้วกันláew gan) at the end makes a suggestion easygoing: …, OK? Here he says ผมpǒm, the polite male 'I', instead of the ฉันchǎn of the rest of the song.

The culture behind it
SARAN (Saran Maneechot), the young rapper of the middle verse in Bye and the third voice of F.HERO's Kularb, released "ใจพังjai pang" on his own channel on 27 April 2023. GTK, the featured artist, produced it. That year SARAN was Spotify's most-streamed male artist in Thailand and its second most-streamed Thai artist (Spotify Wrapped 2023, reported by Bangkok Biz News).
The song is a sad boy's diary: he plays the same songs on repeat, works, comes home and shuts himself in, smokes a cigarette at dusk, drowns his sadness in beer at a karaoke bar, and blocks or gets blocked by everyone he talks to, before he decides that only music still puts him in a good mood. Its hook's หน้าหนาวnâa-nǎao is Thailand's cool season, from about November to February, the months in which, he raps, she left him. The first verse ends with a strong swear word shouted in the background, so the song is marked explicit; the lines here are clean.
