Bye (เดินมาส่ง): meaning and key lines
First Anuwat x SARAN
What the song is about
เดินมาส่งdoen maa sòng, “Bye (Walking You Home)”, is a T-pop song by First Anuwat x SARAN (2023). A gentle goodbye: he walks her to the end of the road they shared and wishes her someone better. The chorus is made of wishes Thais really say (I hope you meet someone good, good luck from now on), and the verses teach to understand well enough, to go separate ways, what a pity and to force a smile. SARAN's rap verse is rougher, with swear words; the line taken from it here is clean.

- เดินมาส่ง doen maa sòngเธอ toeแค่ kâeนี้ níi
I'll walk you this far, and no further.
The title. เดินมาส่งdoen maa sòng = to walk someone somewhere and see them off: เดินdoen = to walk, มาmaa = to come (this way), ส่งsòng = to send, to see off. Thais say it of a date walked home or a friend walked to the bus, and ไปส่งbpai sòng of a ride: เดี๋ยวไปส่งนะdǐaw bpai sòng ná = I'll take you there. แค่นี้kâe níi = only this much, only this far: this is where they part. - ขอให้ kǎw-hâiได้ dâiพบ pópได้ dâiเจอ joeกับ gàpคน konที่ tîiดี dii
I hope you find someone good.
ขอให้kǎw-hâi starts a wish: ขอให้โชคดีkǎw-hâi chôok-dii = good luck, ขอให้มีความสุขkǎw-hâi mii kwaam-sùk = be happy. ได้dâi before a verb = to get to: ได้พบได้เจอdâi póp dâi joe = to get to meet. พบpóp and เจอjoe both mean to meet, to find; songs love such pairs, and พบpóp is the written one. คนที่ดีkon tîi dii = a good person, someone good. - ก็ gâwพอ pawเข้าใจ kâo-jaiว่า wâaเรา raoคง kongต้อง dtâwngแยกย้าย yâek-yáai
I understand well enough that we'll probably have to go our separate ways.
พอpaw before a verb = well enough, fairly: พอเข้าใจpaw kâo-jai = to understand well enough, พอได้paw dâi = it's OK, so-so. คงต้องkong dtâwng = will probably have to (คงkong = probably). แยกย้ายyâek-yáai = to split up and each go your own way; a group leaving a party says it too: แยกย้ายกันกลับบ้านyâek-yáai gan glàp bâan = everyone heads home. - นึก núekแล้ว láewฉัน chǎnก็ gâwยัง yangเสียดาย sǐa-daai
When I think about it, I still feel it's such a pity.
นึกnúek = to think of, to call to mind: นึกแล้วnúek láew = now that I think of it. Men sing ฉันchǎn (I) too: in songs it is everyone's 'I', though a man says ผมpǒm when he talks. เสียดายsǐa-daai is one of the most useful words in Thai: what a pity, to wish it had gone otherwise, to hate to waste something: น่าเสียดายnâa sǐa-daai = what a shame, เสียดายเงินsǐa-daai ngoen = to begrudge the money. The next line says why: there was so much more they never did. - และ láeฝืน fǔuenยิ้ม yímทั้งที่ táng-tîiมี miiน้ำตา náam-dtaa
and force a smile, even with tears in my eyes.
ฝืนfǔuen = to force yourself, to act against what you feel: ฝืนยิ้มfǔuen yím = to force a smile, อย่าฝืนyàa fǔuen = don't push yourself. ทั้งที่táng-tîi = even though: ทั้งที่มีน้ำตาtáng-tîi mii náam-dtaa = though there are tears. และláe = and, a little formal; songs and writing use it more than speech does. - ให้ hâiเธอ toeโชคดี chôok-diiต่อจากนี้ dtàw jàak níiไป bpai
Good luck to you, from now on.
ให้hâi + person + wish blesses someone: ให้เธอโชคดีhâi toe chôok-dii = may you be lucky. โชคดีchôok-dii = good luck, and a warm goodbye (โชคchôok = luck). ต่อจากนี้ไปdtàw jàak níi bpai = from now on: ต่อdtàw = to continue, จากนี้jàak níi = from here. - มัน manน่า nâaเสียดาย sǐa-daaiตรงไหน dtrong-nǎiรู้ rúuมั้ย mái
You know what the pity is?
SARAN's rap verse begins. น่าnâa + verb = worth …-ing, …-able: น่าเสียดายnâa sǐa-daai = what a pity, น่ากินnâa gin = looks delicious. ตรงไหนdtrong-nǎi = which spot, where exactly: มันน่าเสียดายตรงไหนman nâa sǐa-daai dtrong-nǎi = where's the pity in it? รู้มั้ยrúu mái = you know? (มั้ยmái is how ไหมmǎi sounds in everyday talk).

Grammar in this song
Wishing someone well: ขอให้kǎw-hâi + wish. It's how Thais bless each other at New Year, at birthdays and at goodbyes: ขอให้มีความสุขมากๆkǎw-hâi mii kwaam-sùk mâak-mâak (be very happy), ขอให้เดินทางปลอดภัยkǎw-hâi doen-taang bplàwt-pai (have a safe trip), ขอให้ได้เจอคนที่ดีkǎw-hâi dâi joe kon tîi dii (I hope you meet someone good).
To get to: ได้dâi + verb. Before a verb, ได้dâi says you get the chance to do it: ได้เจอdâi joe (to get to meet), ได้ไปทะเลdâi bpai tá-lee (to get to go to the sea). After a verb it means can: เจอได้joe dâi (can meet).
Even though: ทั้งที่táng-tîi. ฝืนยิ้มทั้งที่มีน้ำตาfǔuen yím táng-tîi mii náam-dtaa (to smile though there are tears), ทั้งที่รู้ว่าไม่ดีtáng-tîi rúu wâa mâi dii (even though I know it's bad).
The culture behind it
First Anuwat is a young singer from the label marr; he broke through with his first single, ถ้าเขาจะรักtâa kǎo jà rák ('Enough', 2020), whose full title became a catchphrase: if they're going to love you, they'll love you even if you just stand there (Khaosod, April 2021). He composed "เดินมาส่งdoen maa sòng" (Bye), which came out in May 2023 with words by Pat Vorapat, who produced it with Palm Pawee. SARAN (Saran Maneechot), the third voice on F.HERO's กุหลาบgù-làap, wrote and raps the middle verse; he won the TV contest The Rapper in 2020 at the age of fifteen. The video has passed 100 million views, and the song has nearly 70 million streams on Spotify's weekly chart for Thailand (kworb, October 2026).
Seeing someone off matters in Thailand: ไปส่งbpai sòng, taking someone home, to the bus or to the airport, is how you show you care, and a boyfriend who walks his girlfriend to her door is doing the right thing. So walking her 'only this far' is how he lets her go. SARAN's verse is rougher than the rest: it uses แม่งmâeng and โคตรkôot, swear words that add force, roughly 'damn' and 'so freaking'. You'll hear them between close friends; never use them with anyone you'd be polite to.
