apart from, besides; except preposition also in speech
- nâwk falling
- jàak low
- Falling: start high and drop clearly, like a firm “No!”
- Low: flat and lower than your normal voice, dropping a little at the end.
How to use it
นอกจากnâwk-jàak, literally "outside of", means "apart from": either "in addition to", as in นอกจากภาษาไทยnâwk-jàak paa-sǎa tai, besides Thai, or, with a negative, "except". With แล้วláew and ยังyang it's "not only … but also": นอกจากถูกแล้วยังอร่อยnâwk-jàak tùuk láew yang à-ràwy, it's not just cheap, it's tasty too.
Signs say "except" with ยกเว้นyók-wén, and นอกจากนี้nâwk-jàak níi means "moreover".
