How to use it

Thais call ทุเรียนtú-rian the king of fruits: creamy, sweet and famously smelly. The smell is so strong that hotels, the skytrain and airlines ban it, with signs showing a crossed-out durian.

The best-known variety is หมอนทองmǎwn-tawng, "golden pillow", and the main season runs from about April to September. Durian is sold by weight and can be one of the most expensive fruits at the market.
